Event Details

On Friday, December 4, 2009, CAP AIDS will be joining the rest of the world in commemorating World AIDS Day!  The CAP AIDS World AIDS Day (WAD) 2009 event will be an unforgetable social evening featuring live Canadian and African musical performances, dance, food, drinks, prizes and a silent auction.  

VENUE: The Annex Live (296 Brunswick Avenue), in the vibrant Annex community of Toronto.  

TIME: 7PM till Late  

TICKETS/DONATIONS: Choose your option above and purchase your ticket or DONATE by credit card

GUEST SPEAKER: Councillor Adam Giambrone, Chairperson, Toronto Transit Commission (TTC).   

PERFORMERS:

  1. Tokyo Giants Band: R&B, blues & roots inspired by the Blues Brothers, The Commitments, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, etc, and a regular at Toronto music festivals.
  2. Treasa Levasseur: Recently featured on CBC radio 1 and 2, Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star and national TV
  3. Lickpenny Loafer: Passionate Toronto indie rock band currently in the studio completing their first full-length album.  www.lickpennyloafer.com

CAP AIDS Network Inc (CAP AIDS)

CAP AIDS is a registered, volunteer-driven Canadian charity focused on providing resources to grassroots, community-based organizations that are on the frontlines to RESIST, SURVIVE & OVERCOME the HIV+AIDS pandemic in Africa.

 Since 2003, CAP AIDS has partnered with African non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community AIDS service organizations to:

  • Reduce the spread of HIV+AIDS
  • Provide relief, treatment and comfort to people living with AIDS
  • Help orphans, families and communities cope with the effects of AIDS
  • Promote and protect the human rights of people and communities affected by HIV+AIDS

To date, CAP AIDS has supported more than 40 projects and partners in 5 African countries, namely: Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi and South Africa. CAP AIDS supports CBOs which are working with AIDS-affected groups, particularly AIDS orphans, people living with AIDS (PLWAs), the youth and carers of AIDS patients.

CAP AIDS has successfully implemented a combination of low-budget, short-term projects and high-budget, multi-year projects focussed on:

  • Vocational and employment skills training for AIDS orphans
  • HIV+AIDS education and awareness and life skills training
  • Support for local heroes (carers of AIDS patients)
  • Providing bike to AIDS workers
  • Micro-enterprise development and market connections     
  • Capacity building of African CBOs
  • International internships and exchanges
